Oh, baby it's cold outside. The weatherperson says: "Blizzard warning. Stay home."
Doing just that. The home office is mostly closed. Today is all about reading magazines and doing other stuff - baking bread, making homemade crackers, noshing on cheese and chutneys and pickles, and knitting a neck warmer. And as always planning and thinking about some projects, and mulling over writing projects. What are you doing? Leave a comment to report on your activities, won'tcha please.

Memories
My grandma was born 107 years ago today, amidst a spring snow storm that stranded a laboring great-grandma at home alone whilst great-grandpa went to fetch the midwife. Grandma ws born before great-grandpa returned with the midwife. Actually, great-grandma was not alone. She had a 2 year-old and a 3 year-old with her.
I remember both of these grandmas as incredibly strong women, hard workers who could stand their ground, argue their cause, and make the best food around. All while managing a house full of children, relatives, guests, and on top of running a farm. My mentors...

I know, I know
I know this was supposed to have started like about 100 days ago. I'm starting now. Several friends blogged about writing a haiku each day for 100 consecutive days. This activity was to end at the end of the year. I'm starting now.

three days of blizzard
three long days of digging out
still digging out, still

Prairie Blizzard
Well, now, that was some blizzard. Three days of closed interstates, howling winds and way over a foot of snow. We just finished digging out. The yard is a sea of white drifts, swirls and awesome beauty...wish I had snow shoes.
But there was an upside to this: we could knit and garden plan and artisan plan for three days also.
